Future Spaces 2024: Gallery and Recap

Our Future Spaces 2024 event, held in Cambridge again this year, was a great success! The room of creatives, designers, industry leaders, and sustainability enthusiasts together explored the cutting-edge concepts shaping the future of sustainable and wellness-focused spaces.

At the picturesque Jesus College, University of Cambridge, we welcomed over 90 attendees to a day filled with inspiring sponsor products and valuable conversations. Talks from industry pioneers provoked plenty of questions about what aspects of inclusive design and circularity people want to see for the future of interiors. Interactive workshops and ample networking opportunities created an unforgettable experience that we're excited to implement throughout 2025.

Speakers

We were honoured to welcome the inspiring Sophie Schuller, Head of Applied Research at Cushman & Wakefield, to this year's event. Her captivating presentation, 'The Spaces that Shape Us: How Our Environments Affect Our Brains, Bodies, and Behaviours,' set the tone for the day, encouraging us to continue to design with the senses in mind.

Nigel Silcock from Exubia followed with a thought-provoking discussion on the significance of Biophilia in Design.

Our final morning talk featured Jim Taylour, Head of Ergonomics and Wellbeing at Orangebox, who provided valuable insights into inclusivity and design within educational environments.

The afternoon session delved deeper into sustainability with Tim Knights of Hoare Lea sharing a detailed case study on 'Decarbonising Existing Buildings.' Research-backed and educational, Tim's talk provided a technical learning opportunity for attendees.

Shaz Hawkins from Tarkett concluded the day with a comprehensive overview of human-conscious design principles, offering a fitting summary and conclusion to Future Spaces' focus on inclusive design.

Thank you to all of our exceptional speakers for their insightful contributions.

Collaborate + Create

Sponsored by Actiu, our interactive workshop 'Collaborate + Create' returned with even more innovative challenges in 2024. Teams were tasked with designing a versatile, multi-use facility that blended the modern workplace with hospitality. The brief was entirely open to interpretation, as we were keen to see the directions our wide range of attendees would take.

Participants were fully engaged, collaborating, brainstorming, and building their layouts while seeking guidance from our team, who offered insights on the brief and prompts about possible uses of Actiu furniture where needed.

It was inspiring to witness the creativity and innovative thinking on display as teams envisioned the future of workspaces. The workshop also provided an excellent opportunity for networking with like-minded professionals.
