Layrd Design Shortlisted for a Prestigious Design Award

We are delighted to announce that Layrd Design was shortlisted for a prestigious international design award this autumn, following our work at Taank Optometrists in Cambridge.

In October, Director Will Mayes attended the glittering SBID International Design Awards ceremony at Nobu Hotel in London’s Portman Square. Hosted by former MP Michael Portillo, the event celebrated the best and brightest in interior design, featuring projects from 85 countries around the world.

We were delighted to be shortlisted in the Retail Design category for our work at Taank Optometrists. The project, which was completed in early 2021, saw the complete redevelopment of the client’s premises following a devastating fire. The project combined retail, residential and office space, with Layrd Design managing everything from procurement to contractors and interior design.

The category was a highly competitive one, featuring entries from design studios in countries including Japan, South Africa and China. Each project was reviewed by an independent panel of experts for technical standards and creativity, before being put to a public vote. Harrods Beauty Hall in London was named the category winner at the ceremony.

Says Director Will Mayes: “Although we didn’t take home an award from this year’s event, it was gratifying to be nominated alongside such high-calibre studios. It was also an ideal opportunity to meet with other industry professionals and gain inspiration for future projects.”
