April has been a whirlwind of inspiration, education, and connection for our team. From delving into the world of wellness design to exploring the latest design trends at London showrooms, we've had a busy month expanding our network and broadening our knowledge.
Shaping Sustainable Events: Meet Cambridge
In April, we attended an event by Meet Cambridge at Jesus College, Cambridge, on shaping sustainable events. It was great to see the venue for Future Spaces 2024 in action and to continue educating ourselves on sustainable practices and event management in preparation for September. Shaping Sustainable Events showcased new initiatives on how we can amend options for attendees by only providing the sustainable option where possible and creating more interest around the sustainable options where users have a choice. Speakers also touched on inclusivity through venue choice, panels and speakers.
Future Spaces is a one-day event packed with cutting-edge innovations, thought-provoking talks, and hands-on learning on sustainability and well-being within commercial spaces. At Layrd Design, we aim to create bold spaces that inspire the user and add value to people and the planet. We plan to continue to learn and ensure our practices align with our values.
Wellness Design: Technogym’s New Mayfair Boutique
This month, we were invited to visit Technogym’s new Mayfair boutique ahead of its official opening to discover its cutting-edge, stylish, crafted equipment and accessories. Technogym is a leading company in the field of commercial and home gym equipment. Known all over the world as "The Wellness Company", its goal is to help develop the philosophy of fitness and well-being and turn it into a true lifestyle. Our team were given a tour of the space and commercial equipment alongside a Wellness Design CPD showcasing Technogym’s use of products internationally and the spread of the Wellness Lifestyle.
Exploring Showrooms: Insights from London's Design Hub
Our London showroom exploration led us to Narbutas, a leading manufacturer of office furniture known for its focus on functionality and aesthetics. Located in the heart of Clerkenwell, the Narbutas showroom perfectly embodied their philosophy. Spread over two floors, the space showcased a variety of workspace solutions. Their focus on creating flexible and adaptable workspaces resonated strongly with us, and we look forward to incorporating these learnings into future projects. For each visitor to their showroom, Narbutas plants a tree, contributing to reforestation efforts, fostering a healthier climate and safeguarding biodiversity.
Independent Artists Day: Sketch & Social
This month, our Sketch & Social meetup allowed attendees to freely use their creativity at our Independent Artist Day event. Our sketchers had no specific theme. They were able to draw whatever they liked to draw best. We held our Cambridge meetup at the Fort St George, the oldest pub on the River Cam. The group took inspiration from lively pub scenes, recreating the view and forming fantastic portraits of each other.
We also held our second Ely meetup, hosted at The Yard, a hospitality scheme completed by Layrd Design in 2023, offering street food across five shipping containers. We’re excited to watch this meetup grow as our Cambridge Sketch & Social events have.
Creative Exchange: Welcoming Suppliers to the Layrd Studio
In April, we also had a range of suppliers visit the Layrd studio to showcase their product ranges. We welcomed Synergy Creativ, a leading manufacturer of architectural lighting solutions. The visit provided a valuable platform for collaboration and exploration of the latest lighting trends. Synergy has four sub-brands, Svelto, Ekko, Strom + Overgaard and Pendantic, that combine contemporary design, craftsmanship and functionality to illuminate spaces in the modern workplace.
Task Systems, a leading supplier of high-quality office furniture also visited our studio. This visit centred around optimising workspace design and functionality, with ergonomic workstations that promote well-being and modular furniture systems designed for flexibility. This productive exchange highlighted the importance of collaboration in creating workspaces that not only look good but also support productivity and well-being.
CUFC Business Club: Networking with Cambridge Businesses
April wasn't just about design inspiration at Layrd Design! We also ventured outside the studio to foster connections and explore potential collaborations at the Cambridge United Football Club Business Club. Known for bringing together businesses from various sectors within Cambridge and beyond, this event provided a vibrant platform for networking and offered valuable insights into the Cambridge business landscape. We like to explore the possibility of collaborations across different industries and strengthen our connection to the local business community.
