At Layrd, we're constantly striving to push the boundaries of design. This month has been no exception. From team additions and office upgrades to industry deep dives and design community engagement, we’ve packed a lot into the past month. Discover what we’ve been up to.
Exciting Team and Studio Expansions
July marks another thrilling growth period for Layrd as our team has grown to eight. Débora Vieira, our newest Junior Designer, has joined us all the way from Madeira to start her new position within the company. She plans to work closely with our fantastic stadia expert, Emily Batten, and is already getting stuck into lots of exciting ongoing projects.
Our team is passionate about collaboration and creative drive. If you share our enthusiasm and are ready to make a difference, we're now also hiring a Commercial Sales Representative.
We've recently acquired two additional spaces at our studio base in Cambridge Innovation Parks. Our office needs to be more adaptable to growth with maximised space use while still nurturing collaboration and creativity within the team. As you might imagine, designing a shared space for a team of creative (and very opinionated) designers is somewhat labour-intensive. Our other Junior, Sam Alldus is doing a great job of making the design work for everyone. Stay tuned for regular updates and in the meantime, have a look at our current set-up.

Factory Trip Up North to Visit Senator
Showcase PSR joined us for two nights up North in Lancashire as we visited The Senator Group's HQ and factories to get a better understanding of their products and processes. We loved the opportunity to see desking and seating in production, and the clear craftsmanship that goes into each product.
Senator also has a Sustain facility, which we were keen to learn more about, as our passionate designers are always striving to specify sustainable options for their projects. At Sustain, Senator takes both used packaging and furniture to extend its life. Sustain bulk bags can be taken on-site, filled with packaging and then sent back to be sorted, then reused or recycled. The facility also receives around 6,000-8,000 items of furniture per month (of which only 5% is originally Senator's), that are either donated to charities or broken down into components and made into new items like pods and seating.
Design and Construct Breakfast
In July, we hosted our second Design and Construct Breakfast at Scots All Day in Cambridge. Our events are set up to bring together influential figures from the design and construction industry for a morning of networking and knowledge-sharing. Spaces are always limited to 20 to inspire meaningful conversations. If you missed out and want to join us at our October event, tickets are available now.
Cambridge United Business Club and Training Ground Tour
Our team recently had the exciting opportunity to attend the Cambridge United Business Club and take a tour of their new training ground. It was a chance to step away from the office and immerse ourselves in the club experience again. It was great to get an insight into what the new training facilities look like and network with other local businesses. A highlight of the day was the opportunity to contribute to the club's future by voting on a new crest ahead of a desired identity change in time for the 2025/26 season.

It's been a dynamic month at Layrd, filled with growth, collaboration, and exciting developments. We're looking forward to sharing more of our journey with you in the coming months. Stay tuned for updates and subscribe to our newsletter.
