The Gamechanger Suite
During the summer of 2024, we worked on several projects at Ipswich Town Football Club following the club's promotion to the Premier League. The projects took place on-site and had strict time restrictions due to the pre-season preparations for their first Premier League game. Detailed planning around friendly matches and the seamless coordination with on-site teams ensured timely delivery and meticulous execution of the design schemes, resulting in the completion of each space within the six-week timeframe allocated.
The Gamechanger Suite is a new lounge created for club owners to enjoy on matchdays. We maximised functionality by combining two existing executive boxes, creating a high-end suite that can accommodate up to 40 guests. The suite's futuristic design represents the club's new era and success under new ownership.
The Press Room
The club also needed to update its external image to differentiate from its new competitors. They transformed an underused office into a media room for press conferences, which showcases the club's identity to the global media. We made sure the new space aligns with Ipswich Town's corporate identity, paying attention to details such as custom embroidered theatre seats and high-tech lighting, making a strong statement.
The Home Dressing Room
The player facilities were a key area of focus for the club. We designed a new state-of-the-art home dressing room to meet the club's requirements. Innovative lighting allows for adjustable settings for matchdays, stadium tours and photography. Club branding was crucial in creating a space that motivates and inspires players on matchdays, with Ipswich Town's slogan, "Running Towards Adversity" and logos cleverly represented.
Three Days at Actiu Technology Park
In October, we were lucky enough to visit the Actiu factories abroad. The technology park has been designed to create a positive environment for both staff and the environment, "sustainable on the outside, healthy on the inside". The park is self-sufficient in energy and water supply, and it is LEED Platinum-certified. We’re incredibly grateful, and the design team left feeling inspired by the processes and products.
Vectorworks Design Day
Earlier in the month, Will and Gina had the opportunity to speak at the 2024 Vectorworks Design Day, held at the Royal Institute of British Architects. They presented the process of designing fitness and wellness spaces, highlighting our project Instagym, alongside the utilisation of Vectorworks software. Our design team use this application throughout the process, establishing circulation routes and zoning the space to work out where each main gym area will be. As this develops, it helps us showcase to our clients how we quantify equipment and what their maximum capacity will be in the space so they can consider membership prices.
October’s Design & Construct Breakfast
This month, we also held our third Design & Construct Breakfast event at Bills, Cambridge. Our Cambridge Design & Construct Breakfasts bring together a small group to discuss the current market and catch up with a coffee. Spaces are usually limited to 20, which means it’s always easy to have meaningful discussions with everyone who attends. Our next event is being held on the 24th of January at Station Tavern in Cambridge. Join us from 9-11am!
Ipswich Town FC Contractor Party
The team celebrated our summer of work at Ipswich Town FC at a contractor party held at the stadium. It was great to reflect on the hard work of our design team, namely, our Head of Stadia, Emily Batten. We worked closely and collaboratively with the club to accurately represent their vision for the future and upgrade the stadium experience across multiple projects. Keep an eye on more case study releases coming soon…
"Why I Started Layrd Design"
In our latest blog post, Will Mayes, Layrd Design's CEO and Founder, reflects on his vision for an innovative, sustainable and user-centric interior design studio. Will envisioned spaces that were innovative, sustainable, and truly connected with the people using them. This vision, coupled with a passion for design and a user-centric approach, laid the foundation for what Layrd is today.
